Another Park in the City – Pistoia

The project designed by the young architects of Un Altro Studio in collaboration with Giorgio Tesi Group and the locales of the city centre.

Asimple carpet of green grass makes everyone feels a bit freer. If that green carpet is then laid in the center of a medieval town, freedom has been transformed into an extraordinary event at that point. This is what happened last June 23 in the Piazzetta dell’Ortaggio (the greengrocers’ square), Pistoia’s geographic center and the heart of night life for many young people located just a few steps from the cathedral. The many nightclubs surrounding the square adapted to their customers stretching out and making themselves comfortable on the grassy carpet that covered the stone pavement.

… Taste of Dried Flowers …

Flower preservation is as early as the history of man, although deliberate flower preservation is a more recent phenomenon. In the Middle East, the bones of pre-historic man were discovered with delicate wild flowers probably as a tribute to a passing loved one. Brightly colored and vivid flowers were also found in Egyptian tombs. These flowers were approximated to be 4,000 years old.

Out of the Victorian era grew the fascination of communicating with flowers carried in the nosegays. The idea of the Language of Flowers developed, when it was decided that giving and receiving a bouquet of flowers, when the flowers themselves carry a meaning, gives much greater pleasure.

the inspiration to start

The inspiration to start this website is a beautiful walk in the “High Line Park” in NYC in August 2015.

The High Line Park is built on the disused southern portion of the West Side Line running to the Lower West Side of Manhattan. It runs from Gansevoort Street – three blocks below 14th Street – in the Meatpacking District, through Chelsea, to the northern edge of the West Side Yard on 34th Street near the Javits Convention Center.

People can relax, walk, watch the foliage of more than 210 plant species, enjoy the street art and admire the beauty of the old railway recycling into an urban park.

This made me thinking on how green and design can revitalize a forgotten area of a city. The impact of this project is massive.

The success of the High Line in New York City has encouraged the leaders of other cities, such as Chicago, Philadelphia, London, Fukuoka, and Sydney. Due to the popularity of the High Line, there have been several proposals for museums along its path.
